Biography
Jeremy Thompson is a native of Madison County, Alabama and is currently serving full time with the Alabama National Guard in Huntsville. On 10 July 2013, Sergeant First Class Thompson risked his life as he ran towards a crowd of people fleeing a truck that had just erupted into flames. Without hesitation, he crawled into the truck in order to free a severely injured man that was pinned underneath the steering wheel. Without regard to his own life, he remained focused on freeing the man even as the flames increased and the situation deteriorated. Working with a Huntsville Police Officer, the two men worked tirelessly until they were able to free the driver and move him to safety. Sergeant First Class Thompson’s courageous actions that day saved the life of the driver. For his actions on that date, Jeremy Thompson was awarded the Soldiers Medal, which is bestowed on individuals who perform a heroic act that puts their life at risk, but does not involve conflict with an enemy. SFC Thompson also serves his community as a firefighter/EMT and reserve deputy sheriff.
