Biography

Larry G. Wyenandt entered service from Cincinnati, Ohio. Larry has been a resident of Huntsville for the past nine years. Larry retired from GMAC in June 2010 after 32 years of employment . On 6 February 1969 while serving in Vietnam, Larry Wyenandt distinguished himself while serving as a Field Artillery Cannoneer. On that date, his base camp came under an intense barrage of enemy mortar fire. Specialist Wyenandt, disregarding his own safety, left his bunker and ran through a hail of shrapnel to reach his gun, where he immediately began to provide counter mortar fire. Though his battery began to receive direct hits, he remained at his position and continued to fire despite the great threat to his own life. For this valorous action, Specialist Wyenandt was awarded the Army Commendation Medal with Valor Device. Larry was awarded his second Army Commendation Medal with Valor Device on 7 June 1969 while serving as a Section Chief. Sergeant Wyenandt, under heavy enemy fire, courageously remained in his exposed position and continued to direct accurate fire against the hostile force.
